The Heart of a Child

Most people will agree with the belief that children are closer to God than adults. Is it time, itself, or the events of life which distance us from our Creator?
To gain an understanding , we should consider two types of knowledge: the knowledge of mind which involves conceptual thought and uses the perceptions of our senses and the knowledge of the heart which both hears and understands the "Word" of God.

The mind must be balanced by the heart. What we believe becomes the filter through which we interpret our perceptions. To monitor our own reactions, we could give attention to our own hearts. When situations rouse us to any state of disharmony, we can evaluate our thoughts, rethink our beliefs and eventually live with harmony as the natural order of our lives.

The heart must remain open to develop wisdom. Emotions of anger, sadness, resentment and fear should be guarded against as they cloud the clarity of vision enjoyed by the pure heart.Children deserve the preservation of their natural state of peace. Our Creator has gifted many of us with children. This is The Sacred Trust from God to us. We must strive to avoid alienating our children from their Creator by altering the natural state of their hearts. They require our unending patience, lengthy explanations and gentle demeanor to ensure their tranquility and peaceful being ("being" is a verb here).

The vast expanse of our hearts is widened by love and shriveled by fear, sadness, resentment and anger. Therefore. . . .do not fear and teach your children courage...do not be saddened and teach your children joy...do not be resentful and teach your children foregiveness...do not be angered and teach your children temperance.

To ensure harmonious love for the hearts of our children, we must first learn to cultivate it for ourselves. In doing so, the natural guidance of our hearts will direct our actions in teaching and Acts of Compassion will reclaim residence within our being.
